Kenneth and Patricia Kay

Written by Canmore Museum

Ken worked for Calgary Power, now called Trans Alta Utilities, in Seebe.

Pat was an Exshaw girl and went to high school in Canmore. They met and married in 1957 and moved to the Canmore area, living at the Spray Power Plant Community for 28 years.

Ken worked at the different power plants around Canmore. Pat worked for the Bank of Montreal in Canmore for over twenty years.

Ken did a lot of volunteer work with the Southwood family in trying to develop the ski area called the “L” on East Rundle Range above the Nordic Centre. It just never developed due to lack of snow.

Ken was on the Volunteer Ski Patrol and taught skiing at Sunshine Ski Area and Lake Louise for many years. He always took a carload of kids from Canmore every weekend.

Ken was sometimes called Sammy, a nickname that came from the famous dance band leader, Sammy Kay, who was very popular when Ken was in the Seebe Calgary Power Staffhouse.

After retiring, Ken and Pat moved to Osoyoos, B.C. where they continue to enjoy winter and summer sports, and do quite a bit of travelling.
