Rose Klimek (nee Kubista)

Written by Canmore Museum

Rose was born in Moers, Germany, in 1911, and arrived in Canada at the age of one year with her parents, Joseph and Antonia Kubista, along with her brother, Fred, and sister, Frances. They settled for a time in Springhill, N.S. and later moved to Drumheller, AB. Rose worked hard, starting at age fourteen cleaning homes and waitressing in Drumheller, Banff and Canmore.

She moved to Canmore in 1927 and married Martin Klimek in 1936. They raised two children Elaine (married Ozzie Spagis) and Edward (married Vi Currie). Rose moved to Creston, B.C. with her husband, Martin, in 1969, but missed Canmore very much and eventually returned to reside in Bow Valley Seniors Lodge. She passed away in March of 1997, leaving a daughter and son-in-law and son and daughter-in-law, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
