Martin Klimek

Martin Klimek was born in Tristena, Czechoslovakia in 1904. He arrived in Canada in 1929 on the Empress of Scotland. He lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Johanna and Joe Stankovick.

He began working as a rock miner and later as a contract miner for twenty-five years until having a serious arm injury. When he returned to work, he worked in #5 mine as a motorman until his retirement in 1969.

In May, 1936, he married Rose Kubista and raised two children – Elaine (married Ozzie Spagis) and Edward (married Vi Currie). In June, 1969, Martin and Rose moved to Creston, B.C. and returned to Canmore in March, 1992, to reside in the Bow River Seniors Lodge. Martin passed away in May of 1992, leaving his wife Rose, daughter and son-in-law, son and daughter- in-law, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
