Sidney farmed in the Orkney Islands, on land which had been owned by his father and grandfather before him. He and Helen emigrated from Scotland in 1981 and successfully created a new life for themselves in Canada.
They came to Canmore where their daughter, Maureen, was Public Health Nurse. Sidney worked for twelve years at Bow Valley Provincial Park while Helen launched a new career in babysitting. They managed the Nurse’s Residence at the Hospital from the time it was built until they finally retired in their eightieth years and moved to the Bow Valley Senior’s Apartments. Sid continues his love of the soil by working in the gardens at the apartments, while Helen is noted for her delicious shortbread and is kept busy supplying all the requests she receives.
