Lytkowski Family

Written by Canmore Museum

William and Elizabeth were married in the United Church in Canmore in 1912. Eventually they had seven children: Elizabeth, Pauline, Tom, Gertrude, Hilda, Mary and William (Willy). It was a tragedy when their mother died two weeks after the birth of Willy. When Hilda was fourteen, she had a case of measles that turned into pneumonia and she died in 1935. In the years following, the Lytkowski family left Canmore, except Tom, who was here until his death in 1984. The others have all passed on except Gertrude who has been a resident of Edmonton for many years. The family started to have a reunion every couple of years, beginning in the 1970’s. The descendants carry this tradition on today and the last reunion was held at Sylvan Lake in 1999.
