Kaye Landsiedel

Written by Canmore Museum

I was born Kathleen McGimpsey in Redcliff, Alberta and took all my schooling there. When I was about twenty, I decided there was probably something more interesting to do than work in the glass factory, which made gem jars, beer bottles, pop bottles and milk bottles, so I moved to Calgary. There I took a hair-dressing course and worked at that for a year.

Then I met and married Harold Landsiedel. We had a family of four daughters and one son, and I spent the next years of my life as a busy homemaker. Harold passed away in 1980, but I remained in the family home for a few years. By then our children were all out on their own and I decided the city was becoming too big and too busy, so I decided to move.

Knowing Canmore from having visited here, I came to investigate and found just what I was looking for – a townhouse with no yard work to be done. I moved in 1993. Soon I became a member of the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church and became involved in activities there. Next I joined the Canmore Seniors Association and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion and was able to help in each organization. I have made many friends here and very much enjoy all the activities in these various organizations.
