This week, we explored a pair of glass advertising slides from The Midway Garage, managed by E. Erickson in Canmore, Alberta. Glass advertising slides were a common form of promotional material used in the early to mid-20th century, particularly in businesses like The Midway Garage. These slides were often displayed using a projector to showcase images to a larger audience, such as during community events or in-store promotions.
The Midway Garage was an integral part of the community, located where the restaurant The Blake Restaurant stands today on Bow Valley Trail. Walter Erickson and Millie Fisher purchased the already established Midway Motel, garage, and restaurant from Walter’s father in 1958 and would run it for 13 years before moving on to other ventures.
These two slides showcase vehicles that were likely in use during the 1920s or 1930s, offering a glimpse into the automotive scene of that era. Among the vehicles featured are a Town Sedan and a Club Sedan, reflecting the popular car models of the time and providing a fascinating insight into early 20th-century transportation in Canmore
